I'm a Wannabe Hippie

By Chandler - 4/15/2014

I seriously wanna live the hippie lifestyle. Just for a year maybe. And then take everything I've learned and apply it to my life and live happily ever after.

In my mind, hippies are happy people. They have some money but no ties to material possessions. In the past few months, I've realized how unimportant material thing are. I lost a lot of my belongings in the apartment fire. And my life has gone on just fine.

I'm not all about the political side of it but the tree-hugging "granola child" lifestyle totally speaks to my heart. I want to live a simple life--one guided by nature and open ideals.

A Thrifty Hippie gave the best definition I could find that I agreed with:
A thrifty hippie is all about living a healthy, ethical life (on a budget, of course). I believe everything—you, others, the earth—fits together seamlessly when lived right.
A thrifty hippie doesn’t sacrifice morals for cheap stuff. She (or he) realizes you don’t have to be a Prius-driving snob to care about the earth and the people in it. While she believes every little bit counts, achieving ‘eco-perfectionism’ in her own life will not solve the world’s problems. By taking charge of her daily decisions and advocating for a healthy way of life, she can change the world.
Why would you not want to at least give this lifestyle a try?

I'm always talking about who I want to travel and see the world. I want to be healthy for me and for the earth. I want to make a difference. I want to be at peace with myself. I want to protect this planet, because guess what? It's the only one we've got.
I believe in helping anyone and everyone who I can. I believe in reusing, reducing, and recycling. I believe in being happy, even if that means doing something no one else understands.
I march along in this world to the sound of my own music--because life is so much less fun when you try to dance to someone else's song.

So maybe I'm not a wannabe hippie--maybe I've already got the right idea?
