Back to Bed

2/26/2015

And with the winter closing in on me

I am falling far behind

Like when I first lost my innocence

and then I lost my mind.

You are my addiction

The needle and the spoon

There were parts of me that loved you

but they ran away too soon.

I am sorry if I hurt you,

that was not my intent.

I will pack my bags and leave this place.

So why don't you go back to bed.

"Ron [Pope] is a musical Renaissance Man, writing, composing, recording, producing, managing, and igniting his own career."

I was listening to Ron Pope on Spotify, as I often do while working on lesson plans, writing blog posts, cooking dinner, etc. All of lifes activitives can be accompanied by Ron Pope as the background music. Anyway, I was listening to Spotify and the song Back to Bed came on and I had never heard it before. But it stuck with me. The words, the melody, all of it--stuck in my head for hours on end.

So I typed out the lyrics, figuring my subconscious was trying to tell me something. And while I am still figuring out what my subconscious wanted with this song, I'm still in love with it. It is beautiful and simple and worth listening to--go do that!

Obsessed.

9/11/2014

My love of the song Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood is not a secret. However, yesterday I found the most perfect acoustic version. Obsessed.

Now I tend to have a love of acoustic music is general.

My brain is fried because I have been administering reading assessments to my kiddos all week. Bless their little hearts and minds because I know they are tired too. (Yay for only one more day of these silly assessments!!)

So all I have for you today is the acoustic version of this song. Enjoy.

m'aimer pour que je suis

7/07/2014

love me for who I am

At times I am quirky, irrational, and moody. I can be self-centered. I am kind hearted, passionate, and friendly. I am slow to join in on conversation, but I am listening. I am strong willed (read: stubborn). I am an adventurer and explorer. I am a good friend and a great shoulder to cry on. I am cranky and tired. I am a dreamer. I am different. I am me.

This is my updated Find Your Tribe post (the original is from November 2013).

Life Lessons

2/19/2014

I have six word documents open right now, three pdf files, seven tabs on safari, two flip charts that I am creating, a mile long to-do list, and of course spottily playing in the background. And that is how I got to this post.

I'm pretty flexible when it comes to my music. I listen to almost anything and I'm always down to listen to someone new. So tonight (last night by the time this is posted) when I sat down to work on these 8 million things, I clicked some random recommended band. After a little while, I heard this line:

Life is full of lessons we should never have to learn. -- Honor By August

Now mind you, I pretty tuned out the lyrics to songs. I just need background noise when I'm working. But I heard this line and I stopped. I stopped clicking 87 things on the internet. I stopped typing my lesson plans. I stopped reading my emails. I stopped designing a vowel sort. I stopped multitasking. I stopped.

And let me just say, I don't stop for much when I am multitasking like that. But I did. And the reason I did is because this line really stood out to me. Enough for me to do a quick google search of the lyric and to come up with very little... but that didn't stop me. I kept looking and edited my search a bit. I was still slightly disappointed with the results. But that's not what I really wanted to talk about.

Life is full of lessons we should never have to learn.

It just strikes me as so true. Everyone always talks about the lessons that life teaches us and how great it all is. But what about the lessons that should never happen? What about the things we don't want to learn?

I understand that life is hard sometimes; trust me, I get it. But I just think that sometimes people are pushed beyond what they can handle. Sometimes people should not have to learn things as early as they do or learn them in the situation that they do. Life is unfair that way.
